  • Spring Cascades

    Spring Cascades

I love waterfalls - the sound they make, the way they fall over the rocks and sometimes are misty and ethereal and ohter times powerful and in total command. As a photographer I work at creating an image that will evoke an emotion and with this one I saw power, strength and some playfullness to the water by slecting a shuter speed that shows all 3 things

  • Busy Bee

    Busy Bee

Springtime and the bees are busy plinating flowers and buzzing around the flower and vegetable garden. I love the change of seasons in Vermont - watching the early spring flowers, then the spring flowers and anticipating the summer daisies and more.

  • Loon Chick Gets a Ride

    Loon Chick Gets a Ride

This loon chick is all snuggled up close to it's parent to keep warm. Mom and Dad left the chick to go find their own food to eat and once they got back the chick crawled up onto the back to get warm and to rest.

  • Hanging On!

    Hanging On!

This bee is hanging on and I watched and photographed it for 5 minutes one morning at the end of July. I don't know if it was sleeping or just resting but it was so much fun to see.

  • Loon in the Early Morning Mist

Loon in the Early Morning Mist

Fog blanketed the pond when I arrived at first light and as I paddled the perimeter of the pond it was quiet and mysterious.. Out of the fog I saw a sleeping loon which quickly woke up. and just watched as I paddled by.

I didn't quite get the shot but this beaver was swimming toward shore as I paddled along and slapped his tail.

    Emergence

An orange poppy working it's way out its bud - A miracle for sure.

  • Loon Chick Reflection

    Loon Chick Reflection

Loon parents will feed their chick and then go off to forage for themselves. This time both parents swam right up to my kayak and passed within reach of my paddle - accessing the danger or perhaps saying - hey you're in charge now - either way the chick is left alone. I am very careful to keep my distance so I don't stress the birds. This chick is probably a week old. It's diving on it's own but still riding on it's parents back when it gets tired or cold. This is taken with a very long lens and then the image is cropped alot!

  • Mrs. Red Winged Blackbird

    Mrs. Red Winged Blackbird

As I kayaked along the pond I could see this female Red Winged Blackbird flying in an dout of the bushes with food in it's mouth - must have been a nest in there. She was kind enough to pose for me before flying off to feed her young.

  • Catch of the Day

    Catch of the Day

I never tire of watching bald eagles and it's always a treat to witness and photograph one catching a fish. They are fast, powerful and determined in their fishing. This was from a long ways away using an Olympus Micro Four Thirds Camera - 100-400 lens with a 1.4 teleconverter which gave me a reach of 1120mm! All the while standing on a dock at one of the lake!

  • Loon Chick Riding on Parents Back

Loon Chick Riding on Parents Back

During the first week of so of a loon chicks life they will often ride on the parents back It helps keep them warm and safe and if t hey get tired it's the perfect resting spot. Note the red eye of the parent loon - the sun needs to be low in the sky to get that color in the eye. This was taken early morning - 6:30 am in late June.
