White Pelican Flying

White Pelicans are larger than brown pelicans and summer in the Northwest but they winter in FLorida and warmer states. I had the opportunity to hang with over a hundred of them on a small lake and fell in love with them.

Wait for Me

White Pelicans are very social - they fly together in formations like Geese and they hang together on the water. They use their feet to stir up the bottom so the food comes closer to the top and they also herd fish together.

Backlit Anhinga

Anhingas - also called Snake Bird have to dry their wings after being in the water. They are always on alert to predators since they are vulnerbale while on land. In the water they are incredible - they spear the fish with their long straight beak and are very fast swimmers.

White Pelicans Flying

White Pelicans flying - sitting on the water White Pelicans just look like big white birds but when flying you can see the black wings and those wonderful black feathers at the tips. Here they are turning into the sun while looking for a spot to land on the water. Imagine all they have seen on their migrating journey from the Northwest to the Southeast! From sea to shining sea :)
