The snow was coming down at a fast and furious rate when I photographed the Taftsville Covered Bridge earlier this week. The test was to not slip down the slope towards the river as I lined up my shot. This bridge is near my home and is a beauty. It is the 2nd longest and 3rd oldest covered bridge in Vermont, being built in 1836. It is 189 feet long and spans the Ottaquechee River. Driving through it is a real treat as it is a unique design based on Kingpost trussses and then gorgeous wooden arches added later on.
Vermont in early December can have temperatures all over the board and when the conditions are right the river gets covered with a deep fog. Here we have fog on the river creeping up the hillside and surrounding the trees in a magical white mist.
A red bellied Woodpecker peeks around a tree limb coated with snow.
